Pregnant women infected with Toxoplasma are obliged to treat it immediately. The reason is, untreated Toxoplasma can have harmful effects on the health of the fetus. However, there is no need to worry because this condition can be prevented in the right way.

Toxoplasma is a health problem that arises from infection with the single-celled parasite (protozoa) Toxoplasma gondii (T.gondii). This parasite is known to be able to survive for a long time in the body of humans and animals, even up to a lifetime. The parasite that causes this condition is often found in cat feces or undercooked meat. This parasite can be very dangerous for pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems. Parasitic infections in these two categories can cause a number of serious health problems.

In pregnant women, toxoplasma can pass from the mother to the fetus through the placenta. Fetuses infected with Toxoplasma parasites also have a high risk of several conditions such as miscarriage, disability, and preterm birth. Babies born with this parasitic infection have a number of symptoms such as yellowish skin, seizures, skin bruising, cognitive impairment, anemia, and others.

In general, most people infected with Toxoplasma do not realize that they have this condition because symptoms often do not appear. However, in pregnant women, this condition is characterized by symptoms of stiffness, headache, fever, and swollen lymph nodes.

If a pregnant woman is determined to be infected with Toxoplasma, a gynecologist or virologist will recommend taking tests in the form of amniocentesis and ultrasound. This test is done to find out whether the fetus is infected or not. Doctors also generally prescribe antibiotics that must be consumed to prevent unwanted dangerous conditions.
